About the LTC Program

Caring for Ontario’s seniors is one of the most important responsibilities we have as individuals, as a community and as a province.

RNAO's Long-Term Care (LTC) Best Practices Program sets the gold standard for resident care in the province. Guided implementation of our Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) is helping to improve care, quality of life and health outcomes for Ontario’s seniors.

Our team of experienced LTC  coaches can help you start using the BPGs, and even become a Best Practices Spotlight Organization (BPSO).

Our mission, vision, values and goal

Mission

To provide resources and guidance that improve the knowledge, skills, and practices of the dedicated staff and management in Ontario LTC homes.

Vision

That every senior can access long-term care that treats them with dignity, meets their health and quality of life needs, and involves them and their families in planning and delivery.

Values

The Long-Term Care Best Practices Program is powered by:

  • Caring: seniors, their families, and long-term care home staff all deserve support
  • Evidence: we measure implementations so we can be sure they work well
  • Collaboration: we help facility teams in as many ways as possible, for free
  • Continuous improvement helps ensure even better results over time

Goals

To have over 90 per cent of Ontario’s long-term care homes start implementing at least three Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) by 2025.
