This free, interactive two-part virtual workshop prepares you to be a Best Practice Champion. All members of a team involved in implementing best practice guidelines (BPG) are encouraged to attend, including nurses and other health providers, patient and family representatives, or other staff.
RNAO Best Practice Champions are people who are passionate about using research evidence to improve health-care in their workplaces. Best Practice Champions:
- support the use of BPGs and other evidence-based resources to inform clinical practice and decision-making (Grinspun & Bajnok, 2018); and
- support, influence the uptake of and advocate for practice changes that lead to improved health outcomes.
By taking part in Best Practice Champion training, and actively engaging in leading practice changes with others, Best Practice Champions have an opportunity to develop point-of-care leadership and leverage their unique knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to support clinical excellence. You will learn why evidence-based practice is important and how you can 'champion' best practices in your organization using the Leading Change Toolkit™. Topics include how to conduct a gap/opportunity analysis, engage stakeholders, develop tailored implementation strategies and plan for evaluation and sustainability. You will also be introduced to Social Movement Action, and how you can use social movement practices to motivate and engage staff to lead change.
This virtual educational opportunity consists of a pre-recorded introduction webinar and two live online sessions which must be completed in sequential order. Please ensure that you register for Session 1 and Session 2 separately. You will receive access to the pre-recorded introductory webinar and related materials and documents once you register for Session 1.
Once an individual completes the Best Practice Champion training (virtual workshop or e-learn course), you become a Best Practice Champion and receive a Champions certificate. As a member of the Best Practice Champions Network, Best Practice Champions have access to a variety of resources and supports including:
- regular information sharing webinars
- funding opportunities to support further education and networking, such as our Champions Open House Event
