At its home office, RNAO has created four collaborative working spaces that reflect the association’s deep commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). These spaces are designed to foster connection, learning and collaboration, while honouring the communities, histories and leaders that continue to shape RNAO’s work. They include:
- the Indigenous Health Collaborative Space, commemorating Edith Monture, the first Indigenous registered nurse (RN) in Canada
- the 2SLGBTQI+ Health Collaborative Space, dedicated to the Rainbow Nursing Interest Group, RNAO’s first equity-based interest group
- the Black Health Collaborative Space, commemorating Bernice Carnegie Redmon, the first Black RN in Canada
- the Leading Change Collaborative Space, named in honour of RNAO CEO Dr. Doris Grinspun, visioner and founder of the Best Practice Guidelines and Best Practice Spotlight Organization® Programs
More than physical spaces
These collaborative environments are more than places to meet or work. They are visible expressions of RNAO’s values – spaces grounded in respect, inclusion and shared purpose. They acknowledge the relationships, histories and responsibilities that inform the organization’s ongoing journey toward health equity and social justice.
Grounded in community
Each space was developed through consultation with RNAO’s board of directors, assembly of leaders, staff representing each community, and the Health Equity Consortium.
Artwork, furniture and design elements were thoughtfully sourced from the respective communities to help ensure each space reflects authenticity, respect and shared purpose.
