Luzenia “Quinn” Uy’s nursing journey is rooted in compassion, connection, and a commitment to excellence. She first discovered her passion for caregiving as a Personal Support Worker, where her ability to uplift and support clients—especially older adults—through humour, empathy, and presence revealed the power of therapeutic relationships and inspired her to become a nurse.
Graduating with Honours from George Brown College in 2009, Quinn has since built a remarkable career as a Registered Practical Nurse. At Newmarket Health Centre, where she currently works, she is recognized for her exemplary leadership in palliative care and quality improvement. As the RAI Coordinator, Quinn has significantly advanced resident care by reducing antipsychotic use, improving MDS accuracy, and mentoring colleagues in best practices—all while championing person-centred, evidence-based care.
Colleagues describe Quinn as empathetic, transparent, and collaborative—someone who fosters a safe, respectful environment for both staff and families. Her leadership has helped cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, all while keeping the unique needs and dignity of each resident at the heart of her work.
Receiving this award, she says, has been both humbling and affirming: “Being nominated by my leadership team filled me with joy. It reminds me that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.”
A dedicated lifelong learner, Quinn most recently completed the Bridging to University Nursing for RPNs program at Centennial College with Honours in 2023. She is now working toward her BScN—a journey her family affectionately teases her about, as she’s always enrolled in a course or certification.
Outside of work, Quinn enjoys long walks, baking treats for loved ones, and getting lost in a great book
