Daily newspaper – Best news story: Madeline Mazak

Madeline Mazak is a reporter with the Windsor Star, a community newspaper serving the region of Windsor and Essex County. Her reporting over the past two years has focused on the drug poisoning and homelessness crisis in the region, along with other social issues. She was the only reporter invited inside the region’s first and sole safe consumption site during operational hours, days before it permanently shuttered. Her work has also taken her inside local homeless encampments, where she had the opportunity to shadow outreach workers and interview residents, seeking to understand their lived experiences.
