RNAO celebrates National NP Week 2024
RNAO proudly celebrates the central role of nurse practitioners (NP) in Ontario’s health system during National NP Week (Nov. 10 – 16, 2024). Thank you to each and every RNAO NP member who advocates for the full utilization of NPs across the health system, as well as all NPs across the province who continue to improve health access and outcomes for Ontarians.
As Ontario’s primary care crisis persists, RNAO reinforces publicly funded and fairly compensated NPs as a key solution. To respond to the province’s growing population, the government must focus on building the NP workforce to a total of 7,500 new NP registrants by 2030, and commit to an expanded scope of practice to fully utilize the advanced knowledge and clinical expertise of NPs.
RNAO also calls on the government to develop a comprehensive plan that recognizes and integrates the vital contributions of NPs in the health system. This plan must include expanding the number of NP-led clinics in Ontario, funding additional team-based primary care clinics, compensating all NPs fairly and creating innovative publicly funded opportunities for NPs to serve the public free from user fees.
Everyone is encouraged to support the work of NPs by signing and sharing RNAO’s Action Alert. NPs, use #WeAreNPs in your social media posts to increase the public’s knowledge of your practice.
RNAO will continue to advocate for and with NPs to inform true health system transformation that benefits all Ontarians. To learn more about RNAO’s advocacy and work related to NPs, explore the NPs and RNAO In Focus webpage.
All RNAO NP members, NP students and RNs aspiring to be NPs are invited to join the 11th annual NP Knowledge Exchange Symposium, happening virtually on Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET. This year’s theme is NPs leading positive change and innovation. Visit the event page to download the agenda and register for free.
