Celebrating global excellence in evidence-based practice: 2025 BPSO Global and OHT Summit
From Sept. 23–26, 2025, RNAO – in partnership with founding international Best Practice Spotlight Organization® (BPSO®) members and Ontario Health Teams (OHTs) – proudly hosted the inaugural BPSO Global Summit and the BPSO OHT Summit. It was an extraordinary week featuring transformative dialogue, collaboration and learning dedicated to advancing evidence-based practice worldwide and within Ontario’s integrated health system.
BPSO Global Summit (Sept. 23–25)
Held in Toronto and streamed globally, the plenary program convened nursing and health leaders from across care sectors. Breakout programs took place in 24 countries, including Canada, Chile, China, Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, Spain, the U.K., the U.S., Australia, Switzerland and Turks and Caicos, extending the global reach of the summit.
With more than 15,000 in-person and online participants, the summit highlighted the impact and the reach of the BPSO movement. Each day centred on a theme: adapting best practice guidelines (BPGs) to local contexts; advancing implementation science as a social movement; and measuring outcomes and impact.
Health leaders brought greetings from government and partner organizations, including Ontario Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones (video message), Minister of Long-Term Care Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Deputy Minister of Health Deborah Richardson, Assistant Deputy Minister Dr. Karima Velji, and Ontario Health Vice President Dr. Fredrika Scarth. Breakout sessions showcased more than 70 knowledge exchange presentations on innovations in long-term care, public health, academic settings and more. The Canada Breakout Program included practical sessions on digital documentation, culturally responsive care and student-led BPSO initiatives.
