About this event
This session brings together three presenters to explore innovative approaches to nursing education that strengthen critical thinking, clinical readiness and evidence‑based practice. Grounded in learning theory and real‑world experience, the presentations offer practical, adaptable strategies for educators, preceptors and leaders supporting nurses across academic and clinical settings.
Participants will leave with concrete tools to enhance teaching, support novice and early‑career nurses and foster confidence and competence in today’s complex health‑care environments.
Asking the Right Questions: Using Scaffolding to Promote Critical Thinking
This presentation explores how intentional, scaffolded questioning can strengthen critical thinking in novice nurses. Grounded in constructivist learning theory, Bloom’s taxonomy and Benner’s Novice to Expert framework, this session offers practical strategies educators and preceptors can use in real clinical settings. Through guided examples, participants will learn that asking the right questions at the right time can deepen learning, support clinical reasoning and empower nurses to grow with confidence.
Designing an Emergency Nursing Education Program Using Learning Design
This session examines how a competency-based emergency nursing program was developed to support early-career nurses transitioning into the emergency department (ED) after pandemic-related disruptions. Drawing on the ADDIE instructional design model, this session highlights how learning theory, active learning strategies and structured evaluation were used to build confidence, competence and critical thinking in novice ED nurses. Participants will gain practical insights into curriculum design that strengthens clinical readiness, patient safety and workforce resilience in high-acuity care settings.
Fostering Nursing Evidence-Based Practice in Academic Settings
This presentation introduces a practical webcast series developed at an academic Best Practice Spotlight Organization® to support educators in embedding evidence-based practice (EBP) across classroom and clinical teaching. Through targeted sessions on EBP foundations, teaching strategies, evaluation planning and resources, participants will gain concrete tools to integrate EBP into syllabuses, learning activities and clinical supervision. This will strengthen teaching confidence and learning outcomes.
