Global Academic Best Practice Spotlight Organization Program
RNAO is actively recruiting academic organizations from across Ontario, throughout Canada and around the world to join the Best Practice Spotlight Organization® (BPSO®) program. We invite universities and colleges to partner with us on this exciting journey.
What is an Academic BPSO?
Academic BPSOs focus on advancing evidence‑based education to enhance faculty teaching, strengthen student learning, and ultimately improve patient and client outcomes. The Academic BPSO program currently includes 16 academic organizations across 10 countries.
"Before we started with the RNAO's Academic BPSO program, I had no idea that it could completely transform my life. Now I have more time for my family, my patients and my country. Highly recommend this program to not only nurses but all health-care workers."

What does becoming an Academic BPSO involve?
Becoming an Academic BPSO begins with systematically embedding RNAO’s BPGs into teaching, learning and curriculum design to ensure students graduate prepared to lead with evidence in practice.
Over the three-year designation period, implementation is approached comprehensively — integrating guidelines while simultaneously building the leadership, structures and internal capacity required to sustain evidence-based education. This includes:
- Strengthening faculty knowledge, skills and confidence in evidence-based practice
- Establishing organization structure and leadership supports to facilitate implementation
- Building a critical mass of champions to guide and sustain change
- Aligning curriculum, policies and academic processes with evidence-informed standards
- Monitoring progress and outcomes through quality indicators and structured evaluation
- An ongoing organization-wide commitment to cultivating a culture where evidence consistently informs teaching, learning and academic decision-making
