Quinn Grundy

Quinn Grundy is an assistant professor at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. She leads a program of research into pharmaceutical and medical device industry initiatives and strategies to promote access to and uptake of their products within health systems.

Quinn says commercial determinants of health – which encompass the activities, or omissions of commercial actors, such as corporations – affect consumer choices, regulatory environments, employment conditions and have environmental impacts. These ultimately shape population health.

Nurses have been pioneers in the study of these social determinants of health and Quinn says she is deeply honoured to be recognized for following in their footsteps.

Quinn also serves as director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Governance, Accountability, and Transparency in the pharmaceutical sector.

The Leadership Award in Nursing Research is presented to the RN or NP who actively explores innovative ideas in nursing research. This individual enhances the image of nursing by engaging in efforts to disseminate research knowledge, and is in dialogue with RNs, NPs and nursing students to identify nursing research needs. The member has a proven ability to attract research funding and actively participates in the activities of professional organizations.
