Oral care quality improvement at Friendly Manor

Amid staffing shortages, Friendly Manor noticed a decline in residents’ oral health and committed to making meaningful improvements. Partnering with their RNAO LTC Best Practice Coordinator, they conducted an oral health gap analysis that empowered PSWs and frontline staff to participate in quality improvement for the first time.

A dedicated team of project champions led policy updates, implemented new admission assessments, individualized oral care kits, and strengthened partnerships with a community dental hygienist.

Through education, collaboration, and evidence-based tools from the RNAO LTC Toolkit, the home enhanced oral care practices and built staff leadership skills—while receiving positive feedback from residents, families and team members.
