Exploring the Barriers and Facilitators of Using Evidence-based Assessment Tools in the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Program

This presentation will highlight an ACPF experience that explored the facilitators and barriers to implementing the Nursing Child Assessment Satellite Training (NCAST) Parent-Child Interaction Scales within the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program.

This presentation will illustrate how other community health organizations can easily adapt these strategies to advance nursing practice knowledge. When organizations identify and address barriers to clarify PHNs’ role in the domain of practice, PHNs will increase confidence and competence to effectively work with vulnerable families to influence and improve child development outcomes.

  • identify the barriers and facilitators of PHNs using the Nursing Child Assessment Satellite Training (NCAST) Parent-Child interaction scales with at-risk families
  • understand the impact that these nursing practice changes have on high-risk families, improving parent-infant interactions, and child development trajectories
