Action Alert: It’s mandates we need, not recommendations, premier!
We knew we were in for a difficult fall – and here it is. A dangerous triple threat of COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza is putting children’s lives at risk, particularly those aged four and younger. And, accumulating evidence suggests that subsequent COVID-19 infections may have compounding effects, becoming ever more dangerous and potentially linked to Long COVID.
We’ve taken too long to enact public health measures in the past. We can’t make that mistake again.
Join us! Call on the premier to mandate masks and rollout vaccines, immediately!
A mandate to mask in all indoor settings will reduce illness and increase awareness of the seriousness of the current hospital crisis. It will also prevent community spread of the three viruses ahead of winter, when the situation will undoubtedly worsen. And, without a concerted health-equity approach to the rollout of bivalent and flu vaccines, the impact will once again fall disproportionately on the most vulnerable communities.
In addition to the viruses is the shortage of health professionals. With Bill 124 and unremitting, heavy workloads driving nurses out of our health system, we cannot risk increasing their burden. A mask mandate and a proactive, equity-focused rollout of bivalent and flu vaccines will reduce infection and save lives.
Join us! Call on the premier to mandate masks and rollout vaccines, immediately!
