College of Nurses of Ontario’s first ever Workforce Census
In its 2022 report, RNAO’s Black Nurses Task Force (BNTF) called for the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) to collect and report on race-based data. As a result of RNAO’s unwavering advocacy, the CNO is conducting a Workforce Census to learn more about nurses’ experience working in health care. The goal is to address equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) issues nurses face, and create meaningful change in the system. The survey was sent to approximately 200,000 Ontario nurses Feb. 13 - 15. If you haven’t already, please complete the survey. It is entirely confidential and takes only 10 minutes.
In CNO’s media release about the census, Dr. Angela Cooper Brathwaite, BNTF’s co-chair and RNAO past president, says “It was very exciting for me to participate in developing the survey since I know it needs to be done. There is a great need for this kind of data to make changes to address racism, exclusion and lack of support in the system.”
RNAO and its Health Equity Consortium will continue to partner with CNO to end racism and all forms of discrimination in the nursing profession.
