About this event:

Nurses are held to high professional and ethical standards, but what happens when legal issues arise? Please join us for this legal education webinar that explores how criminal matters—both inside and outside the workplace—can impact nursing practice, trigger College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) investigations, and jeopardize a nurse’s career.

During this presentation, RNAO members will gain insight into:

  • common legal risks in nursing, including workplace misconduct, boundary violations, drug diversion, and impaired practice
  • the role of CNO in investigating criminal charges, even those unrelated to professional practice
  • what to do if contacted by police and how to navigate criminal proceedings
  • potential consequences of a criminal record on CNO registration and employment
  • where to seek legal support

Presenters and credentials:

  • Jody Berkes,  B.C.L. LL.B, Berkes Law, Certified as a Specialist in Criminal Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario

Moderator: Mara Haase, RNAO-LAP administrator
