About this event:

Nurses are held to high professional and ethical standards, but what happens when legal issues arise? Please join us for this legal education webinar that explores how criminal matters — both inside and outside the workplace — can impact nursing practice, trigger College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) investigations and jeopardize a nurse’s career.

During this presentation, RNAO members will gain insight into:

  • common legal risks in nursing, including workplace misconduct, boundary violations, drug diversion, and impaired practice
  • the role of CNO in investigating criminal charges, even those unrelated to professional practice
  • what to do if contacted by police and how to navigate criminal proceedings
  • potential consequences of a criminal record on CNO registration and employment
  • where to seek legal support

Presenters and credentials:

  • Jody Berkes, B.C.L. LL.B, Berkes Law, Certified as a Specialist in Criminal Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario

Moderator: Mara Haase, RNAO-LAP administrator
