RNAO’s ongoing media profile: Your August 2025 report

This month, RNAO’s CEO was featured in a media story about ongoing staffing issues in Ontario hospitals. Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s minister of health, spoke on Aug. 19 at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference, where she highlighted the investments the government has made in health care, including the hiring of more nurses. However, hospitals in the province are still facing staffing shortages that impact patient care. “The issue is that as much as we add nurses, the population grows. We are not adding enough. There is also an exit of nurses practising in Ontario,” said RNAO CEO Dr. Doris Grinspun (CityNews, Aug. 20) in response. In the same interview, Grinspun emphasized the importance of better nurse-to-patient ratios: “It provides better patient safety and better outcomes.”
