RNAO’s Best Practice Champions Network® Workshop Series is offering free Addressing Substance Use Champions workshops across Ontario. The goal of the Best Practice Champions workshop for Addressing Substance Use is to strengthen nurses' capacity and sustain Mental Health and Addictions Best Practices in daily nursing practice.
What’s the workshop all about?
The Best Practice Champions Workshop’s for Addressing Substance Use provides nurses and other health-care professionals with an overview on how to:
- Foundational (Level 1):
- providing safe, ethical and competent care to clients in all clinical settings who use substances
- understanding stigma, learn about licit and illicit drugs that are misused, and explore best practices related to screening, brief interventions and referral to treatment;
- utilize the RNAO Toolkit: Implementation of Best Practice Guidelines, Second Edition
- Advanced (Level 2):
- engage in discussions regarding advanced concepts related to Substance Use, such as Harm Reduction and Concurrent Disorders.
- look at sustaining implementation of Best Practices thorough the use of the RNAO Toolkit: Implementation of Best Practice Guidelines, Second Edition
Only available for nurses and other health-care professionals who have already participated in a previous “Addictions and Mental Health Champions Workshops” and/or “Addressing Substance Use Champions Workshops” and/or have experience working in a Mental Health and Addictions clinical setting.
Internal staff interested in attending the Advanced (Level 2) workshop must demonstrate previous attendance at a Level 1 Champion workshop by providing their certificate of attendance and/or complete the Engaging Clients with Substance Use Disorders eLearning module in advance of the workshop.
