A virtual success: Recap of RNAO’s eighth annual NP Knowledge Exchange Symposium

RNAO’s eighth annual NP Knowledge Exchange Symposium, held virtually on Nov. 23, was an all-day event filled with rich discussions and presentations on the theme “Powered by change.”

During the symposium, NPs from different sectors shared their practice in a myriad of roles, their impacts and their political acumen. With remarks from Ontario’s Minister of Health Christine Elliott and Minister of Long-Term Care (LTC) Rod Phillips that outlined concrete plans for expanded NP scope and the addition of 225 attending NPs in LTC and more, it is clear that NPs are seen as critical in shaping a transformed, equitable health system.

As RNAO CEO Dr. Doris Grinspun, co-host of the symposium alongside NP and NP interest group (NPIG) chair Sally Baerg, remarked, the event left profound learnings for us all, particularly how vital the role of NPs is in impacting the sustainable development goals and the quadruple aim. The robust program provided NPs with key learnings on the following topics:

  • the impact of NPs during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • how NPs change the lives and health of those disadvantaged by societal structures
  • how NPs strive to maintain and build their knowledge and skills
  • NPs working together and building networks to power change through Vision for Tomorrow.

NP Beth Sweeney moderated the symposium, welcoming the numerous NPs in attendance, facilitating the dynamic discussions and powering RNAO NPs for change. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the important NP-focused conversations. RNAO also released its new video on its NP position statement, which is available to watch and share on Youtube.

Mark your calendars to celebrate National NP Week 2022 at the ninth annual NP Knowledge Exchange Symposium on Nov. 17, 2022. Stay tuned for details.
