In May, you’re invited to two RNAO-Legal Assistance Program® (LAP) webcasts: Understanding the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Investigation Process and Legal Issues for Nurses in Independent Practice. 

May 3, 12 – 1:30 p.m. ET: RNAO-LAP Webcast: Understanding the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Investigation Process
Join Farnaz Talebpour, lawyer with the firm Ryder Wright Blair & Holmes LLP, and Mara Haase, RNAO’s LAP administrator, as they discuss CNO’s investigations. During the presentation, participants will learn about the:

  • CNO’s investigation process
  • statutory framework for the investigatory power of the CNO
  • types of professional misconduct which could be investigated
  • nursing standards for nurses to meet
  • nurses’ legal rights in dealing with an investigation
  • potential outcomes of an investigation

Join Esther Song, lawyer with the firm Ryder Wright Blair & Holmes LLP, and Haase as they discuss legal issues related to independent practice. During this presentation, participants will learn about the:

  • differences between practising nursing as an employee and practising independently 
  • professional accountabilities related to record keeping, fees and services, advertising, medication, controlled acts, and more
  • liability protection requirement and legal coverage through RNAO membership

LAP was established by RNAO in 1986 to assist its members with certain legal problems, on a case-by-case basis, related to the professional practice of nursing (as recognized by CNO).
