RNAO’s 2022 provincial and federal pre-budget submissions

In February, RNAO submitted its provincial and federal pre-budget recommendations.

Provincial pre-budget submission:
In its Feb. 11 pre-budget submission to the provincial government, RNAO urges the Ontario government to move with urgency and focus its efforts and resources on three policy areas – nursing, the health system, the social determinants of health – as well as best practice guidelines.

The more than 20 evidence-based recommendations outlined in the submission include expediting applications of internationally educated nurses to help address Ontario’s nursing crisis, increasing and sustaining funding and resources to all Indigenous communities to ensure their public health needs are met, and supporting and funding overdose prevention and supervised consumption sites in every community in need.

Federal pre-budget submission:
In its Feb. 25 pre-budget submission to the federal government, RNAO calls for a renewed health accord to address national and provincial priorities such as long-term care standards, the expansion of medicare and health human resources, and particularly, RN shortages. RNAO also calls on the federal government to address Indigenous health, housing, the national opioid-related overdose crisis and climate change, and to provide adequate funding to support the recently reinstated Chief Nursing Officer role.
