New BPG: Promoting Smoking Reduction and Cessation with Indigenous Peoples of Reproductive Age and their Communities

During RNAO’s 97th Annual General Meeting on June 10, RNAO CEO Dr. Doris Grinspun announced the release of the first-ever Indigenous-focused best practice guideline (BPG), Promoting Smoking Reduction and Cessation with Indigenous Peoples of Reproductive Age and Their Communities

The Indigenous-led guideline panel was co-chaired by:

  • Dr. Raglan Maddox, Modewa Clan, fellow, National Centre for Epidemiology and Public Health, The Australian National University•    Dr. Amy Wright, assistant professor, Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto

This BPG is aimed at meeting the needs of Indigenous woman and peoples of reproductive age, their support networks and communities, and provides nurses and other members of the circle of care with evidence-based recommendations that are Indigenous-led, culturally-safe and tailored by the community. RNAO is grateful to the many Indigenous partners who were central in developing this important guideline – from panel members with lived experience to Indigenous-focused Best Practice Spotlight Organizations® and other voices representing Indigenous communities.
