Letter: Canada’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector

RNAO was one of more than 30 signatories of an open letter to Canada’s minister of transport and minister of environment to ensure that the aviation sector commits to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and protect a livable future for all.

As the letter states, the rise in aviation emissions is incompatible with Canada’s commitment to reduce total GHG emissions by 40 – 45 per cent by 2030. Transport Canada is releasing a new action plan in the fall to reduce aviation GHG emissions, but is not consulting the public and other stakeholders on the plan’s content. Without meaningful consultation, the plan could fail to take the action needed to reduce emissions.

For more information, read the full letter and media release. Please also share RNAO’s tweet to spread the word.
