 Dr. Elaine Santa Mina
Elaine Santa Mina

Elaine Santa Mina is associate professor in the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University. She teaches research/statistics and mental health/addictions courses in the post-diploma degree program. She also teaches quantitative research in the graduate program.

Elaine and her team have led the nursing school to achieve designation as an RNAO academic BPSO through implementation of BPGs within the curriculum. In collaboration with her team of students, she created BPGsinaction.ca to provide real-life examples of BPG implementation in the context of the organization, setting and client population.

In addition to her research with BPGs, Elaine conducts research in mental health and in the education of internationally educated nurses. She says this award confirms the importance of creating student opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

The Leadership Award in Nursing Education (Academic) is awarded to the RN or NP who practises excellence as a nursing educator in a college or university setting. This individual enhances the image of nursing by encouraging critical thinking, innovation and debate about important nursing issues, and acts as a role model and mentor in their work environment.
