My name is Doris Grinspun and I am the executive director of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario.

    Dear Prime Minister,

Ontario nurses feel compelled to respond to your government’s decision to cut one billion dollars in spending. Given the overwhelming evidence that the health of Canadians is profoundly affected by social determinants of health, members of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) are asking you to reverse these planned cuts.

We are writing to share our views on the HealthForce Ontario Strategy. We congratulate you and the Ministry on progress toward a comprehensive health human resources plan. However, we have grave concerns about specific elements of the plan. In this letter we outline our views and ask for a formal meeting to further discuss our concerns.

    Governance
RNAO supports the creation of an Executive Officer position, as it has the potential to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the drug system. We caution that no attempts should be made to transfer political accountability for Ontario’s drug programs from the Minister to this position.
