    Introduction
    The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) believes patient safety is a priority in public accountability for individual nurses, administrators, organizations, professional associations and all levels of government. In striving for excellence and optimal outcomes of care, registered nurses (RNs), as a key link in the health care system, protect and enhance the health of patients/clients whether the client is an individual, family, or community. In so doing, nurses create environments that support patient safety.

    Introduction
    It is the position of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) that excellence in nursing practice must be the vision and goal of every registered nurse, and the collective responsibility of employers, nursing associations, government, educational institutions, and nurses themselves.
    What Is Excellence?
    In the clinical care domain of nursing, excellent nursing practice is the dynamic process that integrates the best theoretical and practice knowledge (praxis) in each client * encounter.  It involves the ability to

    Introduction
    Case Management, is recognized as an important tool in both the promotion of optimum client health outcomes and in reducing the costs of care. Tension and potential conflict can exist between these case management functions.  Indeed the definitions of Case Management embody this tension.

    The horrific cost of armed conflict for individuals, families, communities and nation states cannot be underestimated. According to the World Health Organization 35 people are killed every hour as a result of armed conflict. We also know that 191 million people lost their lives during the 20th century as a result of armed conflict. And – most of these people were civilians. The catastrophic sophistication of modern weaponry has rendered our global village a potentially very dangerous place.

    The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) values diversity and recognizes that discrimination of any kind threatens the health of individuals, communities and nations as well as the provision of quality health care. It is only by working to eliminate this injustice that we, as registered nurses, are achieving our goal of speaking out for health and for nursing.
    Racism is systemic in our society and endemic in our institutions.
