Aug. 31: International Overdose Awareness Day 2022 and new In Focus
International Overdose Awareness Day (Aug. 31) is a time to remember the lives lost and individuals left behind due to drug overdose. RNAO continues to call on the provincial government to respond to the opioid crisis to decrease the toxic drug supply and prevent deaths. Opioid overdose knows no bounds and leads to tragic, preventable deaths.

RNAO applauds the federal government for reinstating Canada’s chief nursing officer (CNO) and appointing Dr. Leigh Chapman to the role.
Aug. 18: RNAO’s response to the Ontario government’s Plan to Stay Open
In an Aug. 18 media release titled “RNAO welcomes gov’t measures to bolster the profession and address the nursing crisis, calls for bolder steps, warns against privatization,” RNAO responds to the Ontario government’s five-point plan to tackle health system challenges.

RNAO’s response to the 2022 provincial Speech from the Throne and budget
On Aug. 9, Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the lieutenant governor of Ontario, delivered Ontario’s Speech from the Throne before Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy re-tabled the government’s spring budget. In response, RNAO issued a media release.

Become a stakeholder reviewer: Care Transitions, Second Edition best practice guideline
RNAO is currently developing the Care Transitions, Second Edition (working title) best practice guideline (BPG). This fall, RNAO will seek stakeholder feedback on the BPG from nurses in all domains of practice, other health providers, and persons with lived experience nationally and internationally.
