Dear Andy and Ru,

We are writing on behalf of RNAO to express our tremendous gratitude for the outstanding role that Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and its entire staff has been playing during the devastating tragedy that occurred earlier this week. Your capacity to respond quickly and calmly with stellar expertise and competency in the midst of a most difficult situation – for all staff, especially direct caregivers, including our nursing colleagues – is simply inspiring.

One news segment we watched featured Miranda Lamb, a team leader in the emergency department, who was genuine, thoughtful and calming. She said, "Everybody just went into the roles they needed to go into… Everybody was on task. We were in our bubble." This most likely left viewers – including seasoned nurses like us – reassured that the injured are in the best possible hands.

RNAO, as an association that represents Ontario's registered nurses (RNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and nursing students in all roles and sectors in the province, takes great inspiration, energy and pride in your work and wants to acknowledge it publicly.

Just as Ru said that there was no problem getting extra hands on deck, we want to reinforce our solidarity in this tragic incident. We offer you any support that you may need; we are indeed at your disposal.

Warm regards and endless thanks!
