Registed Nurses' Association of Ontario

RNAO welcomes health experts from around the world

Experts in health data systems gathered at RNAO’s home office in April to discuss how evidence-based nursing is improving health across the globe for the annual Nursing Quality Indicators for Reporting and Evaluation (NQuIRE) International Advisory Council (IAC) Meeting.

During the meeting, council members discussed the relationship between guideline development and indicator development, the different tools that exist to facilitate guideline recommendations and heard from International Best Practice Spotlight Organizations (BPSO) about their experience and results.

RNAO’s CEO Doris Grinspun also shared remarks about RNAO’s book Transforming Nursing Through Knowledge, which focuses on the association’s best practice guidelines program, before giving council members a copy.

The IAC is composed of experts in performance measurement, health informatics, and knowledge translation. Council members include representatives from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Accreditation Canada, the Academy of Canadian Executive Nurses (ACEN), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Ontario’s Provincial Chief Nurse Officer, Health Quality Ontario (HQO), McMaster Health Forum, and representatives from academic institutions and BPSOs from around the world. The IAC is co-chaired by Dr. John Lavis, founder and head of McMaster Forum, and Leslee Thomspon, CEO of Accreditation Canada.
