RNAO statement on National Pharmacare Report

"The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) welcomes the final report of the Advisory Council on the Implementation of National Pharmacare. RNAO supports the report’s unequivocal and definitive conclusion that a single-payer, universal, public pharmacare system is the only remedy for the existing patchwork of programs that is escalating in cost, and leaving many Canadians without necessary medicines. RNAO thanks council chair Dr. Eric Hoskins and the council for making it clear that a national pharmacare system is both necessary and achievable.

Canadians have waited decades to fulfill the promise of Medicare. The report gives every reason to move forward and put in place the last piece – universal pharmacare. Tommy Douglas is smiling today. He would be urging our elected leaders to embrace this opportunity and move quickly and confidently. The real winners will be all Canadians."
