Keep informed with these long-term care resources

COVID-19 has changed how we work and collaborate with others and the long-term care best practice co-ordinator team is no exception. While challenged in visiting the homes within their regions, the coordinators have expanded their virtual reach, and have been meeting with individual homes and groups of LTC leaders over the past months to provide coaching and support. They quickly pivoted and established new practices to support long-term care homes in providing quality, evidence-based care to residents, including the creation of a series of resources to meet the emerging needs of the sector, which are posted on RNAO’s COVID-19 portal. These include:

  • suggestions and strategies for isolating residents in long-term care
  • palliative care delivery in long-term care during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • mental health and well-being: resources for psychosocial support during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • possible COVID-19 symptoms to report
  • symptoms COVID-19 suspectes à signaler
  • what to do if your resident is short of breath and you suspect COVID-19
  • visiting information

Our Facebook Group, Connecting Families, was established in the spring, and continues to be a very active forum for family and friends of loved ones living in LTC homes to share their stories and get support from others experiencing similar situations. The group is moderated by RNAO's LTC best practice coordinators, and the team provides support to 370 members from all over the province. Most recently, the discussion has revolved around visiting in the homes, the role of essential care providers, access to testing, and advocacy opportunities. If you're interested in sharing this forum for support with families and friends of those living in LTC, please visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/1041669579549676
