Durham College donates essential equipment to hospital

In a move to help out during this pandemic, Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario donated its school’s ventilators, personal protective equipment (PPE), sanitizers and IV pumps to Lakeridge Health Oshawa on March 26.

The donation comes after Dr. Judeline Innocent, RN and executive Dean for the School of Health and Community Services at Durham College reached out to the different schools at the college. In response, several volunteered to donate their equipment such as schools of heath programs, dental hygiene and engineering.

RNAO member Arlene Burla de la Rocha says Lakeridge Health Oshawa was very thankful for the equipment. “They were overwhelmed with gratitude...a lot of them are trying to hold tight to their supply because they don’t know when the next shipment will come in,” says Burla de la Rocha.

In March, RNAO called on the federal and provincial governments to immediately apply their powers to ensure health organizations have ample supply of PPE to protect their health professionals and other workers. Please read our statement online.
