RNAO mourns the loss of Past-President Wendy Gerhard
Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Past-President Wendy Gerhard died of cancer on Sept. 10 at St. John Hospice in Vancouver. Wendy served as RNAO’s president from 1973 – 1975.
National Day of Truth and Reconciliation: Sept. 30
Sept. 30 marks the inaugural federal statutory day recognizing truth and reconciliation of Indigenous peoples and the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report.
This day, known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, provides an opportunity for Canadians to recognize and acknowledge the truth about residential schools and to recognize their devastating impact on Indigenous communities.

Joint statement: RNAO and OMA condemn anti-vaccine protests outside hospitals
On Sept. 12, RNAO and Ontario Medical Association (OMA) issued a joint statement to condemn the protests that are making it difficult for patients and health-care workers to access hospitals.

Our #FullyVaccinated hall of fame is now available to view.
RNAO launched the #FullyVaccinated social media campaign this summer to encourage Ontarians to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. As a part of the campaign, Twitter and Instagram users were asked to send RNAO a photo of themselves before, during or after receiving their COVID-19 vaccine along with their reason for receiving it using “#FullyVaccinated.”

Add your voice: Sign RNAO’s Action Alerts – September 2021
RNAO, its members and the public continue to move the needle on a number of prominent issues related to nursing and health. When signed, Action Alerts are sent directly to political leaders so they know what changes need to be made to improve health and health care for all.
In September, RNAO’s Action Alerts urged the provincial and federal governments to act on mandatory COVID-19 vaccination, global vaccine access, ending the opioid overdose crisis and more.
