The countdown is on. If you haven’t renewed your RNAO membership yet, make sure you do so today. Acknowledging your hard work during COVID-19, the deadline for registration for the 2020-2021 membership year has been extended to Nov. 6, 2020.
RNAO shocked by government’s Nov. 2 LTC announcement
On Nov. 2, the Ford government announced it would establish a new long-term care (LTC) standard by 2024-25 that would see LTC residents receive an average of four hours of direct care every day. Currently, long-term care residents receive an average of 2.75 hours of direct care, per day. RNAO is outraged with the province’s lack of urgency to meet minimum quality care standards in Ontario’s nursing homes.
RNAO urges premier to move quickly on long-term care independent commission recommendations
COVID-19 has swept through long-term care homes since arriving in late January 2020. It has taken the lives of more than 2,000 residents in Ontario and continues to cause outbreaks in LTC homes in many jurisdictions across this country, leading to preventable deaths and deep grief.
On Oct. 23, Ontario’s independent commission examining long-term care homes released early recommendations for the government to improve staffing, testing and solidify infection control practices in homes for the second wave.

RNAO responds to new regulations on supervised consumption sites and services
In a written submission to Health Canada, RNAO responds to the government’s plan to develop new regulations under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). RNAO is calling on Ottawa to ensure people who use drugs have the tools and support they need to reduce health and social harms and remain safe.
RNAO’s fall pre-budget submission: The pandemic recovery
Due to COVID-19, the Ontario government postponed its 2020 budget to November. RNAO participated in a virtual pre-budget consultation on Oct. 15 and delivered its fall pre-budget submission on Oct. 16. The government will unveil its budget on Nov. 5.
