Mission to help Ukraine

In partnership with Canadian Medical Assistance Teams (CMAT), RNAO issued a call for RNs and NPs to volunteer to go to Poland to provide primary health care, mental health care, parental/newborn care and other areas of nursing practice to refugees arriving from Ukraine. 

The application form is now closed and RNAO sends a massive thank you to all of the nurses who applied to volunteer.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has initiated an analysis of the current state and drivers of fax use in the province’s health sector to conduct early planning to identify options for the elimination of fax use in Ontario’s health system.

Media release: RNAO’s response to the lifted mask mandate

On March 9, the Ontario government announced its plans to lift its mandatory mask mandate in most indoor settings and its vaccine mandates in long-term care (LTC) homes. RNAO says these decisions are ill-conceived.

March 11, 2022 marks two years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. This date is now recognized as the National Day of Observance to honour people who have died from the virus.

RNAO grieves the loss of RN Mary Lynch

It is with deep sorrow that we share that long time RNAO member and Faith Community Nursing Interest Group (FCNIG) leader Mary Lynch passed away suddenly on March 8. Her funeral was held on March 12 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Oshawa.

Are RNAO fees tax deductible?

Every year, a number of members ask RNAO’s membership team: “Are RNAO fees tax deductible?”

The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) requires all of its members who are registered to practise to have professional liability protection (PLP). Because PLP is automatically included in your RNAO membership, it may be tax deductible.

Sign RNAO’s Action Alert: Be an ally to Black nurses and inspire system change

The recent report by RNAO’s Black Nurses Task Force (BNTF), Acknowledging, Addressing and Tackling Anti-Black Racism and Discrimination Within the Nursing Profession, provides a comprehensive set of recommendations to dismantle anti-black racism and discrimination in nursing.  RNAO urges all provincial party leaders to add BNTF recommendations to their election platforms.

RNAO applauds federal Liberal/NDP partnership to improve health and wellbeing of Canadians

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh reached a historic agreement that would see the NDP support the minority Liberal government on caucus votes in exchange for movement on a number of NDP policy priorities, most notably a national dental care plan and progress on a national pharmacare plan.

RNAO responds to the Ontario government’s proposed Plan to Stay Open

On March 29, the government announced legislation with initial steps to begin addressing Ontario’s nursing crisis, including reducing barriers for internationally educated nurses (IEN), tuition reimbursement for nursing graduates who commit to practise in underserved communities, and additional funding to improve clinical learning environments.

The Ontario government offers nurses $5,000 incentive

On March 7, the Ontario government announced it will provide nurses in the province with a lump sum retention bonus of up to $5,000 per person, paid by employers in two installments.
