RNAO celebrates nurses for protecting Ontarians and leading change during AGM
More than 800 registered nurses (RN), nurse practitioners (NP) nursing students, politicians, other guests and staff took part in RNAO’s virtual 96th Annual General Meeting (AGM). The event, which took place June 24-26, celebrated the resilience and dedication of nurses who continue to be front and centre during this 17-month long pandemic.
New best practice guideline available
RNAO celebrated Pride Month by releasing its newest best practice guideline (BPG): Promoting 2SLGBTQI+ health equity.
RNAO response to residential school unmarked graves
In recent weeks, unmarked graves of more than 1,000 Indigenous children have been uncovered on the grounds of residential schools. RNAO stands with the Indigenous people of this land in mourning the lives lost and recognizes and shares the enormous and enduring pain caused by the residential school system. We will continue to stand with and listen to the Indigenous people of this land as the truth of Canada’s history is told by the survivors of the residential school and as the truth of this history is revealed by these recent findings and those still to come.
RNAO statement on the passing of Pradeepa Karunananda, NSO member and recent RN grad
RNAO is devastated by the tragic passing of recently graduated RN and RNAO member Pradeepa Karunananda and her parents. The family of three was killed in a tragic car accident in Milton, Ontario on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

In communities across Canada, the opioid overdose crisis rages on. In the past five years, nearly 20,000 lives have been lost. In 2020, nearly 2,500 people died of opioid overdose in Ontario – a 60 per cent increase over 2019.
We need a federal commitment to decriminalize possession of drugs for personal use as well as a commitment for a safer drug supply.

Bill 124 forcibly suppresses the compensation of the very health-care workers that the government calls “heroes.”
