Although cannabis use among school-aged youth in Canada is declining, the country still has one of highest rates of cannabis use in the world. According to the Canadian Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs Survey, 20.6 per cent of youth aged 15 - 19 reported using cannabis in 2015. In 2017, 19 per cent of Ontario students reported trying cannabis. Given that recreational cannabis is now legal, RNAO and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health will host a webinar for nurses and other health professionals interesting in how to provide evidence-based practices on cannabis.

Co-hosted by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, Evidence Exchange Network at Provincial System Support Program, CAMH and Best Start Resource Centre

The objectives of this webinar are:

  • Understand the prevalence of cannabis use in Ontario for youth and young adults
  • Understand the continuum of cannabis use and evidence-based interventions for youth
  • Outline youth engagement principles to support youth to make informed choices about cannabis use
  • Outline a strategy to promote capacity of adult allies in schools to promote open and non-judgmental conversations with youth regarding cannabis
