About this Event:

This workshop is a two-day program designed for nurses and other health-care professionals working with clients who are considering change in their lives to improve their health. This may include those with chronic health issues that require behaviour or lifestyle changes, or those experiencing substance use disorders.

Motivational interviewing is a directive, client-centred counselling style for eliciting behaviour change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. This approach can be utilized in various practice settings and with a wide range of clients. It seeks to understand the individual's frame of reference, particularly via reflective listening, expressing acceptance, and monitoring the client's degree of readiness to change, while affirming the individual's freedom of choice and self-direction.

This workshop focuses on the transtheoretical model of change and the evidence-base for motivational interviewing. It will provide you with the knowledge and the opportunity to practice skills to facilitate the integration of this effective approach into your daily clinical practice. RNAO is proud to bring you this innovative workshop so you can continue to build your confidence, knowledge and capacity as a health care professional.
