The purpose of the training is to gain knowledge and understanding of some of the more prevalent ethno-cultural groups in the region, and provide cross cultural communication skills, to ensure nurses are better prepared to assist clients from diverse communities. A certificate of completion will be provided to all attendees.

After completing this workshop, nurses will be able to better apply the following skills in their daily work:

  • Engage in activities that help you reframe your thinking, allowing you to hear and understand other world views and perspectives, in relation to health care.
  • Familiarize yourself with core cultural elements of the communities you serve.
  • Explore cultural phenomena affecting health.
  • Learn how to incorporate the (RNAO) “Embracing Cultural Diversity in Health Care: Developing Cultural Competence” best practice guideline into your daily activities.
