Opioids 101: An Introduction to Opioid Use, Misuse, Treatment and Overdose Prevention

Canada is in the midst of an opioid crisis, with high rates of use in Ontario. This webinar will provide an overview of what opioids are, what treatment options are available for problematic use, and how to prevent overdose. We will hear from a public health nurse working on an overdose prevention program in Oxford County and learn about successes and challenges with this program. This webinar is being co-hosted by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and the Opioid Resource Hub.

This presentation will:

  • Provide a foundational overview on opioids
  • Provide information on use, treatment and overdose prevention
  • Explore a harm reduction strategy focusing on reducing overdose deaths through the use of Naloxone programs in Oxford County
