About this Event:

Improve how you work with clients who are considering change in their lives to better their health. Motivational interviewing style seeks to understand the individual's frame of reference, particularly via reflective listening, expressing acceptance, and monitoring the client's degree of readiness to change, while affirming the individual's freedom of choice and self-direction.

Motivational interviewing is a directive, client-centred counselling style for eliciting behaviour change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. This approach can be used in various practice settings and with a wide range of clients. Clients may include those with chronic health issues that require behaviour or lifestyle changes, or those experiencing substance use disorders.

This workshop focuses on the transtheoretical model of change and the evidence-base for motivational interviewing. It will provide you with the knowledge and the opportunity to practice skills to facilitate the integration of this effective approach into your daily clinical practice.
