About this Event:

This course focuses on applying tobacco cessation interventions and will provide you with the skills, tools and resources to help with implementation of evidence-based practice in tobacco cessation.

During this presentation, participants will learn how to:
  • learn more about the Tobacco Intervention (TI) Initiative
  • identify key recommendations from the RNAO Tobacco Intervention BPG Best Practice Guideline (BPG)
  • identify the role of a Best Practice Champion as a leader in knowledge exchange and transfer
  • explain the health consequences of tobacco use, nicotine tolerance, dependence, and addiction
  • identify types of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products and pharmacological options
  • gain a better understanding of the social determinants of health and their impact on the provision of tobacco interventions
  • explore the principles of motivational interviewing and its use in providing intensive tobacco interventions
  • discuss use of the RNAO Toolkit: Implementation of Best Practice Guidelines when integrating tobacco intervention best practices into organizational settings
  • join a network of Tobacco Intervention Best Practice Guideline Champions for ongoing consultation and resources
  • receive tools and resources to help with BPG implementation
