About this event:

Join RNAO for a webinar on how we must all play a part in making and keeping our schools free from transphobia and homophobia.

The context: All children and youth, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity require safe and supportive environments to thrive. To this end, many school boards across Ontario have established policies and programs that create safer spaces and inclusive environments for 2SLGBTQI+ kids. The evidence shows that initiatives like this increase school attendance, advance school safety and promote mental health and wellbeing.

Sadly, such policies and programming are under threat by recent political rhetoric and protests in Ontario and across Canada. This threatens safety for children and youth and increases the risk of discrimination, hatred and an unsafe society.

RNAO is speaking out and taking action. Join us on Monday, Oct. 16 from 2 - 4 p.m. ET for a panel discussion that will provide an overview of the issues and answer the following questions:

  • What are “safer spaces" and supportive policies for 2SLGBTQI+ children and youth?
  • Why do these initiatives matter?
  • How can nurses and others stay vigilant and join in taking a stand against hate and discrimination?
  • How can nurses support educators and school boards to protect kids, regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity?

This webinar is free of charge and open to nurses, other health providers, teachers, parents and members of the public.
