95th Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Fri, 2020-06-12 08:00 - 16:00
About this Event:

Join us for our 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) taking place on June 11-13, 2020 at the Toronto Hilton Hotel, 145 Richmond St. W, Toronto. The theme for our AGM is Celebrating the Year of the Nurse, as declared by the World Health Organization and the International Council of Nurses. The year 2020 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. We would be delighted if you would join us in celebrating this incredible milestone. This is an excellent opportunity to mingle with fellow RNs, NPs, nursing students and other key health-care stakeholders from across the province. Required AGM business includes, but is not limited to:

  • President’s Report
  • CEO’s Report
  • Financial Statements / Audited Report
  • Selection of Auditors for coming year
  • Election or removal of Directors*
  • Relevant Governance Items

* Voting for the AGM shall be by electronic means, during the determined period between May-June, 2020. Results will be reported at the AGM.

The second half of the meeting is a consultation session regarding the proposed resolutions brought forward by members. At this consultation, members at the meeting have the opportunity to indicate whether they endorse the proposed resolutions or not. All RNAO members are invited to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions, and there is no charge to attend this day-long meeting. During Friday’s AGM, a Leadership Luncheon is offered. This luncheon is hosted by the Nursing Students of Ontario (NSO) executive. On Friday evening a celebratory President’s Reception and Banquet is held, and this popular event is normally attended by close to 400 people. RNAO Recognition Awards and Media Awards are presented at this event.

The Friday AGM is preceded by a reception and opening ceremonies the evening before. The reception and opening ceremonies are open to all members, and stakeholders, including the Minister of Health, Provincial Chief Nursing Officer, Political leaders, other MPPs, CEOs, CNOs, etc. The high-profile ceremonies are usually attended by an audience of 400-450 people.

On Saturday morning, RNAO Interest Groups are invited to host individual meetings of their own members at the AGM venue. Afterwards, members are invited to the closing hour-long keynote presentation. Individual speakers or a panel of speakers are selected to address a popular or controversial health-care related topic.

One member, one vote

Once again members will have the opportunity to vote on governance items and candidates running for election. Voting will take place online for approximately two weeks leading up to the AGM. Results will be announced at RNAO's AGM.

Annual report

Each year, the association releases its annual report. It contains a message from the president and the chief executive officer, the association's financial statements and a list of the year's main accomplishments. The annual report will be released leading up to the AGM.
