RNAO Annual General Meeting

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the physical distancing requirements across Ontario, RNAO’s 95th Annual General Meeting will be held virtually. Join us on June 11-13, 2020 as we continue to celebrate the Year of the Nurse and the incredible efforts of Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Nursing Students in such unprecedented times.

June 11: Opening Ceremony

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The opening ceremony is the official kick off our 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM). You’ll hear from Ontario’s top political leaders, government officials, and our international nursing colleagues. To top off the evening, we’ll be celebrating our newly designated Best Practice Spotlight Organizations (BPSO).

Resolution Session & Consultation Rep. Orientation

7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

During this session, consultation representatives will have the opportunity to meet with Resolution Submitters to discuss proposed resolutions. This session will also include the Consultation Representative orientation where the rules of order are provided and the verified list of Consultation Representatives is finalized. This is a closed session open only to Resolution Submitters, Consultation Representatives, Assembly Members, and Board of Directors.

June 12: Annual General Meeting

4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Required AGM business includes, but is not limited to:

  • President Report
  • CEO Report
  • Financial Statements / Audited Report
  • Selection of Auditors for coming year
  • Election or removal of Directors*
  • Relevant Governance Items*

* Voting for the AGM shall be by electronic means, during the determined period between May-June, 2020. Results will be reported at the AGM.

Another key feature of this event is the consultation session on the proposed resolutions brought forward by members. Consultation Representatives from RNAO’s chapters/regions without chapters and interest groups will have the opportunity to vote on whether they endorse the proposed resolutions or not. 

June 13: Closing Keynote Celebration

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Join RNAO CEO Doris Grinspun and international nursing leaders Barbara Stilwell and Mary K. Wakefield for the closing keynote, Celebrating the Year of the Nurse: How to Scale Up Our Voice. This session will focus on the history of nursing and set the foundation for the next generation of nurses. We invite RNAO members and members of the public to join us. 

 

Dr. Barbara Stilwell: 
PHD, NP, RN, FRCN
Executive Director, Nursing Now

Dr Stilwell was one of the first nurse practitioners in the UK, and, in 1991, as a principal lecturer at the Institute of Advanced Nursing Education at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), introduced the first UK-based nurse practitioner programme. Dr Stilwell was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing in 1994 in recognition of her work to introduce the nurse practitioner role to the UK. In 2008, Stilwell was named one of the most influential nurses of the past 40 years by the UK’s Nursing Times. Dr. Stilwell has worked throughout the world as a champion for health workers and strong health systems. Before joining Nursing Now, she was IntraHealth International’s senior director of health workforce solutions and recently served as director of a health workforce and systems strengthening project in the West Bank/Gaza. From 1996–2006, she worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) in health systems development, co-authoring the WHO’s 2006 Health Report, collecting and analysing data regarding the impact of migrants on health systems in developing countries. 

Dr. Mary K. Wakefield:
PhD, RN, FAAN 
Distinguished Professor and Former Acting Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
Mary K. Wakefield was appointed by President Barack Obama and served for 8 years as the Administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She was the first nurse ever to be appointed to these senior executive government positions. As the head of HRSA, her portfolio included leading over 80 programs that serve vulnerable populations, ranging from rural health care delivery to supporting people living with HIV. As Deputy Secretary, her responsibilities included strengthening the Indian Health Service and overseeing the management of all HHS operating divisions. Currently, she is a distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Texas at Austin and Georgetown University and serves on a number of non-profit health boards and committees.

Consultation Representatives will receive separate instructions on how to join via email.

  • the latest version of Chrome or Firefox Internet browser

Refunds:

Due to the cancellation of the in-person event, tickets purchased for the Leadership Luncheon and President’s Banquet will be 100% refunded via the original form of payment. Reimbursements may take some time to process, so please bear with us.  

All reservations made through RNAO’s room block at the Hilton Hotel Toronto will be refunded by the hotel directly. Please contact Kartika.Patel@Hilton.com with you reservation number and confirmation.
