RNAO President, Angela Cooper Brathwaite

Angela Cooper Brathwaite is an adjunct professor and part-time educator at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, where she teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the department of health sciences. She has a bachelor's degree, master's degree and PhD in nursing. She is also certified as a health executive by the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.

Angela has more than four decades of nursing experience, including 25 years of nursing leadership in acute care as a director of nursing at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, regional manager in primary care at Grenfell Regional Health Services in Newfoundland, and program manager of public health and nutrition in the Prevention of Injury and Substance Misuse program at the Regional Municipality of Durham.

Angela is a distinguished alumnus from the University of Toronto and has received RNAO leadership awards in political action and nursing administration, as well as RNAO's Award of Merit. She has been recognized for her work in injury prevention by the Regional Municipality of Durham and has received the Ontario Public Health Association's Award of Excellence for her contribution to nursing practice and policy advocacy in injury prevention and substance misuse. She is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Advanced Nursing and Clinical Nursing Research and has conducted and published numerous research studies on cultural competence and chronic diseases (diabetes and cancer).

Angela believes the best leaders are knowledgeable, authentic and visionary, with a servant's heart. They lead by example, acting as role models and collaborating with nursing colleagues and the public to improve the health of Ontarians.
