Registed Nurses' Association of Ontario

HUB Fellowship - Claudia Wong

Sponsored by HUB, RNAO’s home and auto insurance provider, this award offers the recipient the chance to participate in a week-long, one-on-one placement with RNAO CEO Doris Grinspun.

A conversation with Claudia Wong probably means a conversation about policy. The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre RN speaks passionately about healthy public policy and how it can improve peoples' lives. She's about to graduate with her master’s degree in public policy from the University of Toronto, and has worked in a number of policy consultant roles since 2013, including a stint with Health Quality Ontario. "Policy affects so much of what we do every day when we're providing patient care," Claudia says. "It's the template from which everything else happens." Despite her love for policy, she says her clinical work on a critical care team keep her grounded and connected to patients. She believes nurses can bridge the gap between the needs of patients and health-care providers, and can bring front-line perspectives to policymakers. In the future, Claudia sees herself working in policy, tackling a broad spectrum of health issues. She's hoping the HUB Fellowship will allow her to soak up the atmosphere at RNAO, and be inspired by CEO Doris Grinspun and other outstanding nurses.
