Jessica Cunha is a community reporter and photographer for the West Carleton Review in the rural west end of Ottawa. Her reporting on health care, education and community initiatives has won provincial, national, and international awards, including an RNAO Media Award in 2013 for a three-part series on hospice care. Cunha joined Metroland Media in 2010 as the community reporter for the Kanata Kourier-Standard before moving to the Review in 2014. She completed internships in Toronto and Washington, D.C. after studying journalism at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College. She says she is grateful to the Schaettgen family for sharing its story, which led to the award-winning article.
