Health care is full of vested interests, she says, and practitioners can become accustomed to the status quo. This is why she thinks careful, well-researched and probing health reporting, which can help guide citizens through the issues, is so important.

Silversides, who admires Canada’s dedicated women’s health activists, contributed a chapter to The Push to Prescribe, Women & Canadian Drug Policy. A long-time health policy journalist, she writes features for the Canadian website healthydebate.ca, and recently published a feature on a coroner’s inquest into OxyContin-related deaths in Maisonneuve magazine.
