'Butterfly child' with rare condition gives hope to thousands

Avis Favaro joined the CTV News team in 1992, and has become what she calls the network’s "number one hypochondriac." She has won a number of awards, including ones from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, and the International Film and Television festival. She has also received a Gemini award. Elizabeth St. Philip is the senior medical producer at CTV National News, joining in 2001. She and Avis have covered a host of health stories for national news and the current affairs show W5. Elizabeth has also worked as producer for CBC, Discovery Channel and the National Film Board of Canada, and was a field producer at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Elizabeth and Avis were thrilled their story on Jonathan Pitre, a special boy suffering from a painful inherited skin condition, won an RNAO Media Award. They say he rises above the pain and disability by dreaming of beauty and helping others with his condition to find ways of coping.
